The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza opened in 1994 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, offering guests a quiet, dignified tribute to television’s most influential figures. Located near Echo Lake, the open-air exhibit featured bronze busts of ATAS Hall of Fame inductees, including Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball, Betty White, Barbara Walters, Andy Griffith, Oprah Winfrey, and Walt Disney himself. A life-size Emmy Award statue stood at the center of the plaza, anchoring the display.
In 1999, Bill Cosby was inducted into the Hall of Fame, and his bust was added to the exhibit. Years later, following a series of sexual assault allegations, a change.org petition called for its removal. On July 7, 2015, Disney quietly removed Cosby’s bust after park hours, responding to the growing controversy and public pressure.
In October 2016, the entire Hall of Fame Plaza was dismantled, and all busts were removed. Though the space has since been repurposed, the exhibit remains a notable chapter in the park’s evolving relationship with pop culture and public accountability.
