Opened: Early 2010s (as part of Conservation Station programming)
Closed: 2018 (ahead of the land’s temporary closure and re‑focus)
Location: Conservation Station, Rafiki’s Planet Watch
Sponsor/Theme: Disney character drawing classes
Overview:
For a time, Rafiki’s Planet Watch hosted its own version of the popular Animation Academy. Inside Conservation Station, guests could sit with a Disney artist and learn to draw classic characters step‑by‑step. This smaller satellite of the original Studios attraction brought a creative twist to the land, blending Animal Kingdom’s conservation focus with Disney’s animation heritage.
Legacy:
Though short‑lived, the Planet Watch Animation Academy offered a unique chance to connect with Disney artistry in an unexpected setting. It closed in 2018 when Rafiki’s Planet Watch was shuttered for refurbishment, and the drawing classes did not return when the land reopened. Today, it’s remembered as a hidden gem that gave families a quiet, creative break amid the park’s animal adventures.
