Opening on January 21, 1995, Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable replaced Symbiosis in The Land pavilion at Epcot, just 20 days after its predecessor closed. The film blended stunning global footage with beloved characters from The Lion King, offering a lighthearted but sobering look at humanity’s impact on the environment

Featuring Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa, the story followed the trio as they learned about pollution, deforestation, and ecological imbalance—ultimately choosing to restore the watering hole they had disrupted. The film reused footage from Symbiosis and added narration from James Earl Jones, with new animation and voice work by Cam Clarke, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella.

After more than 23 years, the attraction closed on February 3, 2018, with no immediate replacement. The theater was briefly used for student workshops, and in early 2019, Disney announced a new show: Awesome Planet, which opened on January 17, 2020, continuing the pavilion’s mission of environmental education through immersive storytelling.
