La Nouba was a resident Cirque du Soleil production that dazzled audiences for nearly two decades at Walt Disney World. Performed in a custom-built white tent-like theater on the West Side of Downtown Disney (later Disney Springs), the show blended acrobats, aerialists, clowns, and live music into a surreal celebration of movement and imagination.
The name La Nouba comes from the French phrase faire la nouba, meaning “to party” or “to live it up”—and the show delivered on that promise. Directed by Franco Dragone, with costumes by Dominique Lemieux and choreography by Debra Brown, the production featured a cast of 67 international performers and ran ten shows per week, welcoming over 10 million guests during its run.
The theater itself was a marvel: a freestanding structure designed to evoke the elegance of a circus tent, complete with elevator lifts, retractable power tracks, and a massive PVC trellis backdrop. The stage could rise and descend, shift and transform, allowing for gravity-defying stunts and seamless transitions between acts.
Over the years, La Nouba celebrated major milestones—including its 5000th performance in 2009, 6000th in 2011, and 7000th in 2013. For its 15th anniversary, Mickey and Minnie Mouse made a surprise appearance, marking the first time Disney characters joined the Cirque cast on stage.
The final curtain fell on December 31, 2017, making way for a new Disney-themed Cirque production. In 2021, the theater reopened with Drawn to Life, a show inspired by Disney animation.
