Opening on March 15, 1999, Doug: Live! was a musical stage show at Disney-MGM Studios, themed around the animated series Disney’s Doug. Performed in the ABC Theater, the show ran for 25 minutes, with a 30-minute preshow during which guests were selected to join the fun—similar to the interactive format of Superstar Television and the Backstage Studio Tour water effects tank
Using a projected backdrop to set the scene, the show followed Doug Funnie as he prepared for a school talent show, encountering familiar characters like Patti Mayonnaise, Roger Klotz, and Skeeter Valentine. Musical numbers and guest participation made the experience both heartfelt and humorous.
Doug: Live! closed in May 2001, and the ABC Theater sat mostly dormant until February 14, 2009, when it reopened as The American Idol Experience, continuing the space’s tradition of audience-driven entertainment.
