Upon entering the Wonders of Life pavilion in EPCOT’s Future World, one of the first attractions to greet guests was Goofy About Health—a lighthearted, multimedia presentation starring Disney’s most accident-prone everyman. The show debuted with the pavilion’s grand opening on October 19, 1989, and ran continuously until the pavilion’s closure on January 1, 2007.
Set in a cartoon-style cityscape, the theater featured seven screens arranged across the room, allowing guests to watch a synchronized blend of classic Goofy shorts and newly edited segments that formed a loose narrative. Unlike traditional seated shows, Goofy About Health had a more casual, walk-in format—guests could enter at any time, grab a seat, and enjoy the looping presentation, much like the Main Street Cinema in Disneyland.
The storyline followed Goofy as he struggled with the consequences of poor health habits—overeating, lack of exercise, and general clumsiness. Diagnosed with the fictional “Unhealthy Living Blues” by a jazzy cartoon doctor (voiced by Kal David, who also voiced Sonny Eclipse in Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café), Goofy embarked on a chaotic journey to improve his lifestyle. The show featured 25 different Goofy shorts, cleverly edited to highlight themes of fitness, nutrition, and wellness.
Some of the featured clips included:
- Goofy attempting yoga and aerobics with predictably disastrous results
- Misadventures in dieting, including the short Tomorrow We Diet!
- Goofy navigating the grocery store and making questionable food choices
- Comedic takes on sleep hygiene, stress, and balance
The soundtrack included original music, including the toe-tapping “Unhealthy Living Blues”, which added a playful, film-noir vibe to the presentation. The city backdrop, jazzy score, and Goofy’s slapstick antics created a show that was both entertaining and subtly educational—perfectly aligned with the Wonders of Life mission to make health and wellness fun.
Though Goofy About Health was never a headliner like Body Wars or Cranium Command, it became a beloved stop for guests who appreciated its humor and accessibility. It was one of the few attractions in Future World to remain operational until the very end of its pavilion’s life—a testament to its enduring charm.
After the Wonders of Life pavilion closed in 2007, the building was repurposed for seasonal events like the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, and later slated to become the Play! Pavilion—a project that was ultimately canceled in 2023. Today, the original theater space remains dormant, but the memory of Goofy’s health hijinks lives on in the hearts of fans who grew up laughing—and maybe learning a little—along the way.
