After an extensive overhaul, the area formerly known as CommuniCore, located behind Spaceship Earth, became Innoventions in 1994. Broken out into two separate pavilions, East and West, Innoventions features sponsored exhibits themed around technology, health, safety, and science.

Over the years, Innoventions has seen many exhibits come and go as well as gone through a few changes of its own. In 1999, in tandem with Epcot’s Millennium Celebration, Innoventions underwent refurbishment and become “Innoventions: The Road to Tomorrow”. In late 2007 the subtitle was dropped as Innoventions underwent another renovation.

At the end of April, 2015, Innoventions West closed its doors forever. Little was known at the time on what the future of this section of Innoventions would hold.

As part of the biggest planned overhaul to Epcot since its opening, it was announced that the majority of Innoventions would not only be closed but, demolished, to make way for a new hub layout. Innoventions East closed in September, 2019, and in November 2019, demolition began on Innoventions West.
