Opening in December 2005, Journey Into Narnia was a walk-through style attraction located in a repurposed soundstage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Created to promote the release of The Chronicles of Narnia films, the experience offered guests a blend of live performance, film clips, and behind-the-scenes displays that brought the fantasy world of Narnia to life.
The first version of the attraction, Journey Into Narnia: Creating The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, ran from December 9, 2005 through January 1, 2008. Guests entered through a wardrobe-themed portal and stepped into a snowy forest scene, where a live actress portraying the White Witch delivered a dramatic monologue. The walkthrough included scenes from the film, previews of the upcoming sequel, and a display of costumes and props used in production.
The second version, Journey Into Narnia: Prince Caspian, opened on June 27, 2008 and remained in operation until September 10, 2011. This iteration featured a pre-show video with director Andrew Adamson, followed by a walk-through of Aslan’s Stone Table Chamber, recreated using molds from the actual film set. Guests viewed a short scene from Prince Caspian enhanced with multi-screen projections, dimensional sound, and in-theater effects. The experience concluded with a display of concept art, storyboards, and screen-used props and costumes.
After the attraction closed, the soundstage was gutted and refurbished to house a new walk-through experience, The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow, which opened in December 2012. Though the format remained similar, the new attraction shifted focus to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, continuing the space’s role as a film tie-in showcase.
