Manufactured by Vekoma and designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith opened to the public on July 29, 1999, as part of Disney-MGM Studios’ tenth-anniversary celebration. It was the first Disney coaster to feature a high-speed launch, propelling guests from 0 to 57 mph (92 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds, with riders experiencing up to 5 Gs and navigating three inversions, including a rollover and corkscrew.
The ride’s limousine-themed vehicles were equipped with:
- 125 speakers
- 24 subwoofers
- Over 32,000 watts of audio amplifier output
This setup delivered a concert-level experience, with each car featuring a unique license plate that hinted at which Aerosmith song would play during the ride.
Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were directly involved in planning the attraction’s pre-show, which took place inside the fictional G-Force Records. The storyline whisked guests away in a super-stretch limo to make it to an Aerosmith concert across town—complete with a high-speed dash through the streets of Los Angeles.
🎶 Fun Facts
- It’s the second fastest ride at Walt Disney World, just behind Test Track
- Each ride vehicle’s license plate corresponds to a different Aerosmith track
- Aerosmith previewed the attraction multiple times and helped shape its tone
In 2025, Disney confirmed that the attraction would be re-themed to feature The Muppets, following the closure of MuppetVision 3D and the Muppet Courtyard. The new version, set to open in late 2026, will star Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem in a high-energy music festival experience. The coaster’s structure will remain, but the storyline, soundtrack, and visuals will be completely reimagined.
