Built in early 2001, as part of the 100 Years of Magic celebration, the Sorcerer’s Hat was located directly in front of The Great Movie Ride and replaced the Earful Tower as the park’s icon. Throughout the 100 Years of Magic celebration, the space under the hat was used as a showcase of exhibits detailing the life and career of Walt Disney. Following this period, the space became home to a pin trading shop around which character meet and greets often took place.

In October 2014, marking the beginning of a complete re-imagining of the park, it was announced that the hat would be removed. Demolition began the following January, and was completed in late February.
