Over a year after its predecessor, Journey Into Narnia, had closed, The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow officially opened to guests on December 6, 2012. Like the Narnia attraction before it, this was a walk-through and stand-show experience, housed in Soundstage 4 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The show was designed to immerse guests in the world of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, using high-resolution projection mapping, surround sound, and theatrical effects to simulate a live encounter with Captain Jack Sparrow, portrayed by Johnny Depp.
Guests entered a coastal-themed chamber where a talking skull introduced the challenge ahead: prove themselves worthy of joining Jack’s crew. The main show featured Jack standing atop the Black Pearl, interacting with the environment and leading guests through a series of trials. These included battling Davy Jones, resisting the lure of singing sirens, and surviving an attack from the Kraken. The show concluded with Jack defeating the Flying Dutchman, inviting guests to join in a celebratory rendition of “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).”
Despite its immersive effects and recognizable character, the attraction had a relatively short run. After nearly two years of operation, The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow closed permanently on November 6, 2014. The space was later repurposed as part of the entrance expansion for Toy Story Land, marking the end of this swashbuckling chapter in the park’s history.
