An Opening Day attraction located in the left side of the ABC Theater, The Monster Sound Show debuted on May 1, 1989, at Disney-MGM Studios. Sponsored by Sony, the show introduced guests to the world of Foley sound effects, where four audience volunteers were selected to add live sound to a short film starring Chevy Chase and Martin Short. Set in a spooky mansion, the film offered exaggerated sound opportunities—from thunderclaps to crashing chandeliers—making it both educational and hilarious.
In July 1997, the format was updated and the attraction renamed ABC Sound Studio, reflecting Disney’s growing partnership with ABC. The concept remained the same, but guests now added sound effects to a cartoon clip instead of a live-action film. Despite the rebranding, many guests still referred to it as Monster Sound Show, as the interactive format and theater layout remained familiar.
The ABC Sound Studio closed on February 20, 1999, to make way for Sounds Dangerous! starring Drew Carey, which continued the sound-focused theme in a new binaural audio format.
