Opened on November 18, 2001, TriceraTop Spin was a colorful, family-friendly attraction nestled in Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, a carnival-themed corner of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With its spinning top ride system and cheerful dinosaur vehicles, it offered a lighthearted break from the park’s more intense adventures.

Guests boarded teal Triceratops ride vehicles, each with two rows accommodating up to three riders. Much like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, guests could control their dino’s vertical movement and tilt, creating the sensation of soaring around a twirling tin-toy top.

The queue featured minimal theming, with carnival-style lighting, repurposed license plates, and quirky signage that matched the roadside charm of Chester & Hester’s backstory. Though there was no formal preshow, the surrounding area—complete with Fossil Fun Games and the towering Cementosaurus—added to the playful vibe.

During holiday seasons, TriceraTop Spin participated in Donald’s Dino-Bash, featuring festive overlays and themed music. The ride’s soundtrack occasionally shifted to match seasonal events, adding a touch of whimsy for returning guests.

TriceraTop Spin closed permanently on January 13, 2025, as part of the larger transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into Pueblo Esperanza, a new Tropical Americas-themed land inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones. Demolition began swiftly, and by February 25, the ride had been completely removed from the skyline, leaving only scattered remnants behind construction walls.

🎈 Fun Facts

  • The ride’s central top featured comet decorations and star motifs on the Triceratops vehicles
  • One of the Fossil Fun Games prizes was modeled after the ride’s dinosaur design
  • The Cementosaurus, a dinosaur-shaped structure made of faux concrete, remains intact and will be repurposed in the new land

Though simple in design, TriceraTop Spin was a staple for younger guests and a nostalgic nod to roadside Americana. Its departure marks the end of Chester & Hester’s quirky reign—but the spirit of playful exploration will live on in Pueblo Esperanza when it opens in 2027.
