Erected in 1994, shortly after the opening of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios), the attraction’s billboard stood tall in the median of World Drive, greeting guests with a chilling preview of the thrills to come.

The billboard featured a 3D recreation of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, complete with forced perspective, lightning effects, and eerie soundscapes that brought the haunted setting to life. A dimensional elevator cage, shaking with terrified riders, added to the illusion—making it one of the most elaborate and beloved roadside visuals in Walt Disney World history.

For nearly three decades, it loomed as a spooky sentinel for park-bound travelers, becoming as iconic as the entrance archways themselves. But in July 2022, the billboard was removed during overnight demolition as part of a roadway and bridge construction project. Crews carefully dismantled the signage, including the “Hollywood Tower Hotel” and “Twilight Zone” lettering, before toppling the structure and clearing the surrounding foliage.

Its removal marked the end of an era. The Tower of Terror billboard was one of the last 3D billboards remaining on Disney property, and fans still mourn its loss as a symbol of the park’s more theatrical, immersive design style.
